SWKROA MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

The name of this organization is the SOUTHWEST KANSAS ROYALTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION, INC., although it is often referred to as "SWKROA." 

The purpose of SWKROA is to foster, protect and further the rights and interests of the members of the Association.  The Southwest Kansas Royalty Owners Association is organized and operates as an entity eligible for exemption from taxation under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, or any successor provisions.

Classes of MembershipRegular Membership, Family Membership and Associate Membership 

Membership Requirements  

Regular Membership is open to any Person who owns land, mineral or royalty interests in the southwest Kansas counties:  Barber, Finney, Grant, Greeley, Hamilton, Haskell, Kearny, Morton, Pratt, Seward, Stanton, and Stevens. Additional counties may be added to the Association territory by the Board.  

Family Memberships are available for Regular Memberships to add up to three (3) Family Members.  A Family Membership will consist of a Family Head who will be the primary contact person for communications from the Association and for payment of membership fees.  The Family Head must qualify for Regular Membership.  The Family Head must provide contact information for each Family Member, including email addresses.  A proposed Family Member who would be able to qualify for Regular Membership based upon their surface, mineral or royalty ownership shall be ineligible to be a Family Member.  Corporations and Associate Members shall not be eligible for a Family Membership.

Associate Membership.  SWKROA offers Associate Memberships to any Person who owns land, mineral or royalty interests outside the Kansas counties listed under Regular Membership.  Associate Membership is open to Persons who do not qualify for Regular Membership or Family Membership.  

"Person" includes an individual, and members, stockholder, partner or beneficiary of a limited liability company, corporation, partnership or trust. 

Membership Benefits

Regular Members shall be entitled to attend and vote at meetings of the members of SWKROA (one vote per membership), receive SWKROA newsletters, have access to SWKROA forms and publications, and have access to the “Members Only” features on the SWKROA website.  A Regular Member may add his or her spouse to their membership, at no additional charge.  However, such membership with spouse, will only be entitled to one vote at all annual or other meetings of the members of SWKROA and only one mailing of newsletters and other member mailings.

Family Members shall be entitled to the same benefits of Regular Membership, except for voting rights.  A Family Membership shall only be entitled to one vote at all annual meetings or other meetings of the members of SWKROA. 

Associate Members shall be entitled to the same benefits of Regular Membership, except for voting rights. An Associate Membership does not have voting rights, nor can an Associate Member be an officer or director of the organization. 

Membership Fees 

Finances of SWKROA are maintained through membership fees consisting of:  Base membership fees of $70.00 per year for each Membership category, plus an Incremental Fee of $5.00 for each additional 160 net mineral acres, or fraction thereof, owned by the member in excess of the first 160 acres of minerals owned by the member which are included as part of the Base Membership Fee.   No fines, penalties, or assessments are or can be made to any member of the Association. 
In addition to the Base and Incremental fees, the annual membership fee for each designated Family Member will be $20.00 per year
A Regular Member may add his or her spouse to their membership, at no additional charge.  
 
Special Fund Contributions.  The Board of Directors also welcomes and occasionally requests voluntary contributions to the Special Funds Account, which funds are used for special projects or litigation to promote or protect the interests of its members.  
Membership fees are payable on a fiscal year basis, which begins on March 1st of each year.  The membership fees are payable by online via credit card.  Payments may also be made by check payable to SWKROA, and mailed to 209 East Sixth Street, Hugoton, Kansas  67951.
